    Oliver I always enjoy your content but this dose of info is a doozy...gonna take some getting used to 😉 Strange but I've never kept any of the species from here in Trinidad. And I certainly didn't know that we had that gorgeous green species. I think you need to write a book on these new classifications 👍🏻

      Ian Fuller is your guy for Corydoras books, he knows more than anyone about them and his books have all the breeding information also. His next one certainly will include the name changes. I am just trying to help people understand how their fish fit into the new names!

    You may have put “Bryconops sp. Rondonia” and “Bryconops sp. Rio Curuá”'s profiles in reverse order。 “Bryconops sp. Rio Curuá”''s fins have no white spots。Rio Curuá is a black water river, so how can “Bryconops sp. Rio Curuá” have bright white spots?

    • @belowwater
      @belowwater 11 дней назад

      hopefully they have scientific names soon, to clear up the confusion. There may be 2 fish in the Curua... and it is not a black water river, it is very clear, and the fish there are typical clear water fish.

      Retroculus are/were in every rapid of the Rio Xingu, in the Volta Grande and south to where the rapids end, so they are not that difficult to find in nature. With the impact of the dam, Retroculus may disappear in some of the rapids as the habitat is no longer suitable to them.

    Cichlids are spiny-rayed fish that constitute the family Cichlidae, there are many extant species within many genera, they are one of the only two extant families within the order Cichliformes, the other being the convict blennies (family Pholidichthyidae), a recent sequencing study ribosomal mitochondrial DNA of a large taxon sample divides the cichlid family into two major clades, the first of these being the subfamily Cichlinae, known as the "New World Cichlids" consisting of six groups, Heroini, Cichlasomatini, Chaetobranchini, Geophagini, Astronotini, and Cichlini, the second clade is the subfamily Etroplinae, known as the "Old World Cichlids", including all other cichlid species, Etroplinae is composed of fifteen groups, Etroplini, Heterochromidini, Ptychochromidini, Bathybatini, Coptodontini, Cyprichromidini, Ectodontini, Eretmodontini, Haplochromidini, Lamprologini, Limnochromidini, Oreochromidini, Tropheini, Tilapiini, and Hemichromidini

      I think either one works, I would not worry about it too much. Since scientific names have tons of other languages built into them, "XIngu" for example, the pronunciation is not that crucial.

      an adult _Leporinus tigrinus_ I would say. _L.villasboasorum_ is also very similar... the others: the first darker fish on the right is _Crenicichla_ sp. Xingu II, the big dark fish on the left is _Crenicichla dandara_ , but the smaller one in the center is a female _Teleocichla preta_ . All three of the cichlids are endemics.
